Assumed Business Name enables you to use a unique name for your business other than your legal or birth name. New Mexico, however, does not have statutes permitting the filing of DBAs. Learn the alternatives of NM DBA in this guide.

New Mexico Business Entity Search
Your company’s name (be it an LLC, a corporation, or any other legal NM entity) should be unique and have not been acquired by any other entity in New Mexico. Moreover, this name must also meet the business name requirements of New Mexico.
First, you have to search the Corporation and Business Services of New Mexico Secretary of state website for the DBA, Business, & Fictitious names. Check thoroughly to know whether the name that you wish to have for your business has already been taken by someone or not. Make sure, this name isn’t already in use.

Reserving a business name would allow you to perform limited operations in New Mexico, such as opening a bank account under that name. As your reserved business name expires after 120 days, reserving a name is not a viable long-term solution.
Reserve your Name instead of New Mexico DBA
Businesses operating in New Mexico are required to reserve a business name with the New Mexico Secretary of State Office to perform the limited operations while their LLC’s Article of Organization, Articles of Incorporations, or LLPs are in the registration process with the state.
